Eligibility

Eligibility varies from state to state, but you may qualify for American Assistance if you qualify for any of the following government programs.

  • Medicaid
  • Food Stamps/SNAP
  • General Assistance
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • TANF/Work First
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance (Section 8)
  • Home Energy Assistance Programs (HEAP, LIHEAP&E-HEAP)
  • National School Lunch Program
  • Supplemental Security Inc-Blind &Disabled

You many also qualify based on your household income. The following table lists the 2012 Federal Poverty Guidelines:

*Please note, some states may use a different household income level as their Lifeline eligibility criterion

Federal regulations mandate only one Lifeline supported service per household (including cell phone and landline service). If you currently have Lifeline landline phone service you must choose to switch your Lifeline benefit to the wireless service.
